Self-reliance is taking control of your life and not being dependent on others for the meager things like taking care of yourself. It has become very important for parents to make their kids independent from an early age. Kids who are dependent
on their parents for smaller things tend to find it hard to survive in the real – world. Parents not only have to preach their kids but also set a great example in front of them. Children learn what they see.
Parents need to give freedom to their kids to make their own decisions, set their approach towards education themselves. If the parents keep interfering in the decisions that the kids make they will eventually lose confidence in themselves. They might even start believing that the parents do not trust them with doing things themselves and eventually they will also lose confidence that they can do something on their own. Here are some of the tips to make your kids more self-reliant:
Let them make their own decisions
Don’t take all the decisions for them. Let them have the freedom to make their own decisions. Do not be all the time available for them. This allows them to reasonably think through the situation and make a decision of their own and become more confident. The parents need to be ready for the mistakes the kids make. If you bash on the kid for making a wrong decision, they might refrain from making a decision all together.
Every kid shall be able to accept the individual that they are. They should not be dependent on others for approval or validation about themselves. Once they get used to taking validation, it can become a hard habit to break.
Executing their chores on their own
For example, tidying up after them, it provides them with a sense of responsibility, stability, and predictability. These skills can be of utmost value in the times when they need to face adversity. It further makes them more accountable for the duties/tasks assigned to them.
Take your first step towards making your kid more self-reliant by providing them with STEPapp. It is an app that has re-designed the syllabus into games and helps your kids understand the concepts better. You will no longer have to sit around them as they do their studies.
